Brief Biography

Before joining the Computer Science Department at UFF, I was a Research Staff Member at the Data Analytics Research group at IBM T.J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY. Before that, I received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, San Diego under the guidance of Professor Charles Elkan.

Research Interests

My research interests lie in machine learning and data mining, more specifically:

  • Methods for learning decision policies from data describing outcomes of previous decisions (including cost-sensitive learning and bias correction).
  • Reductions between machine learning problems (for example: between reinforcement learning and classifier learning).
  • Applications to business problems such as customer segmentation, customer wallet estimation and fraud detection.
